30 Days of Brave | Katie
“I know bravery because of the NICU. When you have a baby you imagine delivery a certain way. You picture an ideal delivery and getting to snuggle your newborn, calling family and friends, taking those fresh 48 pictures of your newborn. When we had our son as soon as he was born he went right to the NICU. It wasn’t anything we were anticipating or expecting to happen. It truly took our trajectory of being newborn parents and turned it 360°. No one talks about being a NICU parent when you’re expecting. How difficult it is both emotionally and physically, how brave you have to be, figuring out travel back and forth, trying to heal and be there for your newborn. It’s a lot! The supportive nurses and doctors on our team were a saving grace for us. Always answering our questions (even if we just asked the same question 10 minutes ago) giving us updates, being there for us, teaching us about the equipment, showing us how we can help or care for our newborn when he was in their care. That week we spent in the NICU was tough we all had to be brave, trust our care team and their plans to give us a healthy baby boy when we graduated! The NICU will always be a special place in our hearts and we’re thankful for all the nurses and doctors do for us parents!” NICU Mama, Katie
